The Los Angeles Lakers have reached an agreement with free-agent forward Matisse Thybulle on a one-year, $3.3 million veteran minimum contract, as reported by Shams Charania of ESPN. The move brings a two-time NBA All-Defensive Second Team selection to Southern California to address perimeter consistency and provide elite point-of-attack defense.
Thybulle arrives in Los Angeles after finishing a three-year, $33 million contract with the Portland Trail Blazers. Over his last two seasons, the 29-year-old wing demonstrated notable improvements from beyond the arc, converting 43.8% and 39.8% of his 3-point shots. During the 2025–26 campaign, he appeared in 30 games for Portland, averaging 5.8 points, 2.0 rebounds, and 2.0 steals per contest.
Health remains a key narrative surrounding the wing defender. Chronic knee concerns and thumb surgery restricted Thybulle to 45 total appearances across the past two seasons. When healthy, however, his length and instincts make him one of the league’s most effective disruptors in passing lanes and off-ball shot-blocking.
With the agreement in place, Los Angeles currently stands at 16 standard guaranteed contracts. The front office must reduce the roster by at least one player through a trade or waiver before opening night to comply with the league’s 15-man roster cap.
